Alibaba's EMO can create talking/singing videos using any photo

Alibaba's Institute for Intelligent Computing has developed an AI system named "EMO" that can animate single portrait photos, creating realistic videos of individuals speaking or singing. Unlike traditional methods, EMO directly synthesizes video frames from audio waveforms, capturing subtle facial motions and identity-specific nuances associated with natural speech. The researchers at Alibaba trained the model using a vast audio-video dataset with over 250 hours of footage and 150 million images, covering various content types and languages. Experimental results show that EMO can generate convincing speaking and singing videos in different styles, surpassing existing methodologies in expressiveness and realism. However, the method is more time-consuming and may generate unintended body parts due to the lack of explicit control signals. Despite these limitations, the tool achieves accurate lip-sync. Microsoft introduces Co-Pilot for Finance

Microsoft launched "Copilot for Finance" on February 29 in a public preview. This new AI-powered service integrates with Microsoft 365 tools, offering generative AI and automation solutions tailored for finance professionals. The tool aims to address the time constraints faced by finance professionals, allowing them to focus on more strategic work. Copilot for Finance joins Microsoft's other AI assistant offerings for Sales and Service, providing end-to-end solutions specifically designed for finance tasks. Google CEO regrets bias shown by Gemini in image generation

Google CEO Sundar Pichai has acknowledged that the company's AI image generator, Gemini, has been unacceptable and has caused offense to users. The tool, which was designed to avoid creating violent or sexually explicit images, was fine-tuned to create diverse images. However, it failed to account for cases that should not show a range and became overly cautious, refusing to answer certain prompts. This led to images of America's Founding Fathers as black, the Pope as a woman, and a Nazi-era German solider with dark skin, as well as a tendency to thwart requests for images of white people. Pichai has promised to fix and relaunch the service in the coming weeks, with a clear set of actions including structural changes, updated product guidelines, improved launch processes, robust evaluations, and red-teaming, as well as technical recommendation. Microsoft shakes hands with Paris based Mistral AI

Microsoft has invested €15 million ($16.3 million) in Mistral AI, a Paris-based AI startup that focuses on foundational models. This investment is an addition to the Series A funding round announced a couple of months ago and does not change Mistral AI's valuation, which was about $2 billion following its most recent funding round in December 2023. Microsoft's investment will convert into equity in Mistral AI's next funding round, giving Microsoft less than 1% equity in the French AI company. Mistral AI has also unveiled Mistral Large, a large language model designed to rival GPT-4 and Claude 2, which is not open-source and can be accessed through Mistral's API platform. Additionally, Mistral AI and Microsoft have signed a distribution partnership for Azure, which will likely attract more customers and allow Azure customers to access Mistral's models through Azure's model catalog. After many messy attempts, Laura finally produced a cake she felt proud of - it looked beautiful with strawberry icing. But as she transported it carefully on the bus ride to the fair, a sudden bump sent the cake flying! It landed icing-side down on the floor. Laura felt tears well up, and her dreams of impressing the judges were dashed.
