AI might be monitoring you at work

Major companies like Starbucks, Walmart, and Delta Air Lines are adopting AI platforms like Aware to track employee interactions on workplace apps such as Slack and Microsoft Teams. Aware's CEO, Jeff Schumann, emphasizes its real-time monitoring of employee sentiment and toxicity, providing insights into workforce dynamics. While some companies leverage Aware for governance and compliance, concerns about employee privacy and mental health persist.

A study by the American Psychological Association reveals that monitored employees report poorer mental health. Dr. Tara Behrend of Michigan State University warns against relying solely on such tools, highlighting the importance of valuing employee contributions beyond mere productivity metrics. As AI reshapes workplace surveillance, ethical considerations and employee well-being remain paramount. Read more…

A Voyage of Hope

Lillian gazed at the moonlight dancing on the waves as her little boat bobbed gently. Ever since she was a child listening to her father's tales, she had been captivated by rumors of mermaids off the Nova Scotia shores. Though villagers mocked her fanciful obsession, she knew in her heart that magical creatures lurked in the sea.

Tonight her patience was rewarded. Silhouetted against the glow of the moon, graceful shapes broke the surface of the black water. Lillian caught flashes of silver tails and long, flowing hair before the mermaids dove back into the depths. A smile spread across Lillian's face as she imagined the look on the skeptics’ faces when she presented her sketches and notes as evidence. Her daring solo voyage had been vindicated by discovery, proof that wonders still remain for explorers brave enough to seek them.
